Creation: Decree Federal no. 83.548 of June 05, 1979 Location: São Raimundo Nonato - Piauí - Brazil. The National Park of the Mountain of Capivara is located in the Southwest of the State of Piauí, among the coordinates 08°26'50'' and 08°54'23'' of south latitude and 42°19'47'' and 42°19'47'' and 42°45'51'' of longitude west. It has 129.140 hectares and its perimeter is of 214 km. |
| The National Park of the Mountain of Capivara keeps the largest concentration of archaeological ranches now known in America, most with paintings and gravuras rupestres, constituting the most important acervo of paintings rupestres of the continent. More than 30 archaeological ranches are prepared for the visitation; in them the visitor will see part of that immense acervo registered by UNESCO in the list of the Humanity's Cultural Patrimony. In those ranches meet extremely old vestiges of the man's presence, between 50 and 60 thousand years ago. |  |

The Park is placed entirely in the state of Piauí and the only placed inside of the ecosystem of Caatinga, happening frequency of thorny species, of cipós, of cacti and of bromélias. Were identified in the area 208 species of birds, among them macaw, urubu-king, eagle-Chilean, socó, jacu, biguá, swallows, azulão suffered, prick-stick, etc. Among the reptiles are abundant the lizards, the chameleons and the serpents. Among the mammals cotias, mocós, herds of deer, four species of armadillos (armadillo-ball, armadillo-peba, armadillo- true, armadillo-china), sagüi, monkey-nail, guariba, besides ounces, wild cats and pig-do-brushwood.

It has surprising infrastructure, besides with visitation autoguiada for the trails that take to the registrations rupestres. It also shelters the headquarters of the American Man's Fundação Museu, that counts with the French government's support. The closest cities are São Raimundo Nonato and Colonel José Dias, and the fastest and easy access is through the city of Petrolina-PE, of the which dista 300 km. The highway São Raimundo Nonato-Petrolina just has not paved 8 km. Petrolina has airport, served by the aerial companies TAM, Rio-south and Northeast. It also exists in São Raimundo Nonato a field of landing airplanes, besides hotel and camping site. The scarce precipitations happen of November to March and the most intense heat is of September to November. |  |
In São Raimundo Nonato, the Hotel of the Mountain of Capivara offers 18 apartments, the Restaurante Umbuzeiros and an excellent service. In the Ranch of Mocó, close to the National Park, the Camping site Holed Stone has reception, local for huts, bedrooms, sanitariums, churrasqueia and
cook. Are foreseen more two hotels close to the periphery of the National Park.
The entrance in the Park is only allowed with the authorized companions' presence and it should be
